Sugarloaf Farm Philosophy

Learning with your horse or mine is what makes riding enjoyable, fulfilling, & exciting!

Learning and training is for the horse and rider, in combination.

The training process is continuous and involves development of one’s relationship with the particular horse. We want a working partnership, with trust, consistency, eagerness to work, and mutual respect. Violence and fear if experienced by the horse or the rider are counterproductive.

We start where the horse and the rider are and begin developing. Any barriers (such as tension, anxiety, fear, pain) are faced and worked-through. The rider and the horse end up ahead, as issues become paralyzing further-on in training. For example, a tense back in the rider will produce a stiff back in the horse, which in turn will interfere with collection, jumping, and pleasurable riding in general.

Through this development process, each horse and rider will discover their particular gift for horsemanship -- based on their interests, conformation, time, talents, and temperament.

Safety and grounded practices are built-in to our philosophy.

All of this is FUN!!!!!
